RimbaWatch grew out of years of investigations into deforestation in Malaysia into a regional watchdog focusing on climate-related issues in 2023. Today, RimbaWatch has unique expertise in researching land-use change, carbon lock-in and greenwashing and has a track record of shaping and influencing climate actions.

RimbaWatch is featured regularly in regional media. RimbaWatch analyses have underpinned initiatives proposed by authorities including the Penang State Government and Malaysian Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Climate Change, informed ongoing litigation, and prompted responses by government Ministers, state agencies and corporate organizations.

Our team of analysts, based in Asia and Europe, bring specialized expertise from fields including law, human geography, environmental science and political ecology.

RimbaWatch has research partnerships with organizations including Greenpeace Malaysia and Bruno Manser Fonds. We are a member of coalitions including Forests & Finance, Climate Action Network Southeast Asia, Climate Emergency Coalition of Malaysia and is the secretariat for the upcoming Zero Greenwashing Alliance.
